Belt Lipectomy featured in March Surgery Spotlight

March’s Surgery Spotlight features PSEN editor-in-cheif Al Aly, MD performing a belt lipectomy on a 45-year-old female who used to have a BMI of 57.2. She had previously had a duodenal switch operation and experienced wound dehiscence, and then had tension sutures added to correct that complication. After the secondary tension suture operation, a large hernia grew and a fairly large panniculus developed, causing ongoing discomfort. The goal of this procedure is to correct the hernia, the large panniculus, the large mons pubis, and to contour the buttocks and thighs. The video can be streamed for free once you are logged in to PSEN, or can be purchased as part of an online course to earn CME credit.

Dr. Aly is an internationally recognized leader in post-bariatric aesthetic surgery and has lectured and/or performed surgery in over 25 countries. He currently serves as a Clinical Professor of Surgery at the School of Medicine at the University of California, Irvine.
