New Surgery Spotlight highlights mandible reconstruction

IN THE NEW SURGERY SPOTLIGHT, Henry C. Vasconez MD, plans the harvest of a fibula osteocutaneous free flap to perform mandible reconstruction on a 21-year-old male with severe craniofacial microsomia and other congenital anomalies. In addition, the patient will also undergo a sagittal split mandibular osteotomy on the contralateral side, as well as a rotational LeFort 1 maxillary advancement in order to obtain improved symmetry and occlusion.

Dr. Henry Vasconez is a board-certified plastic surgeon in Lexington, Kentucky. In addition to private practice, he serves as a professor at the University of Kentucky. His interests include craniofacial surgery, pediatric plastic surgery, breast reconstruction and aesthetic surgery.

Dr. Glasberg is in practice in New York City with a focus on breast reconstruction, cosmetic surgery of the breast and body, wound healing and regenerative tissue products. He is certified by both the American Board of Plastic Surgery and the American Board of Surgery. He currently serves on the Executive Committee and Board of Directors of the American Society of Plastic Surgeons. He is also the President-Elect of the New York Regional Society of Plastic Surgeons. Dr. Glasberg is the recipient of many awards and honors, including the President’s Award of the American Society of Plastic Surgeons in November of 2008 for his work within the society and the specialty. In addition to his private practice, Dr. Glasberg is on the attending staff at Lenox Hill and Manhattan Eye, Ear and Throat Hospitals and is the Associate Chief of Plastic Surgery at Englewood Hospital and Medical Center.
